Kulturama is the largest school in the Nordic countries for artistic studies at the post-secondary school level. Kulturama is a separate brand of Medborgarskolan, a non-profit study organisation. The school accepts 373 students per year and approximately 3 000 students per term on evening classes.
Kulturama has over 40 years' experience of running courses and training in a wide range of artistic expressions. We offer 25 full-time courses and 9 part-time courses in song, music, composition, musical production, dance, theatre, opera, show musicals, photography and film.
The courses are primarily for students in Sweden and the other Nordic countries, although in certain cases also for students with an English-speaking background, since art courses generally have a very practical and individualised orientation.
If you are an English-speaking student and are interested in any of our courses, please contact us at Kulturama by telephone or e-mail so that we can discuss in more detail your personal opportunities and background as a preliminary to studying on one of Kulturama's full-time courses. Even though the language of instruction is usually Swedish, the individual dialogue and the process of development in an artistic profession is international.
The following course descriptions contain further information on the course contents and whether it is possible to accept applicants from a non-Nordic country.
Our full-time courses are under government supervision which means that foreign students could be eligible for student loans or grants in their home country. Please verify this before applying to Kulturama, as you will not receive grants/loans from the Swedish government.
Our full-time studies are for two years, but are binding for one academic year at a time.
During the first academic year, your studies will be more specialised and will prepare you for art college. The second academic year is a direct preparation for studies at university level and is in some cases career-oriented. In the description of our courses, the number of teacher-led hours for each course is always specified. We issue a certificate at the end of each course if you have completed the syllabus and effected full payment of the line fee.
A multicultural school
Kulturama is located in Stockholm's Hammarby Sjöstad. In this new suburb, a fantastic art college has been created with all artistic studies contained under one roof. The classrooms are technically advanced and are equipped for modern teaching methods.
Our recording studio, piano studio, song, ensemble, dance and theatre halls, photography labs and computer rooms for MIDI and digital imaging are really impressive.
In the school we have our own stages and lunch restaurant with a stage, which in the evening is transformed into a music pub with student performances.
Kulturama's Basic School for Musical Theatre and Kulturama's Independent Upper Secondary School, which offer an aesthetic programme in dance, theatre, music, image and design, are included on the same college campus.
If you are visiting Stockholm, you are welcome to come and make a study visit at Kulturama. We are open seven days a week with the exception of public holiday weekends.
Taking the first step
At Kulturama you can realise your dreams and transform your talents into artistic creation! Perhaps you want to extend your capacity and reach greater heights? If you have the interest and the aptitude, we can provide the opportunity to develop through knowledge, practice and skills training. Our training methods focus on personal development, which is why we work in relatively small groups with a high teacher ratio. Working and developing together in a group in which everyone is motivated by the same ambitions is especially rewarding and promotes individual growth. Taking the first step on a career in our subject areas demands courage and talent, but above all hard work. The training courses at Kulturama place high demands on you as a student. Whatever goals you have for your studies, we can, with our more than 200 experienced and professional teachers, provide you with a firm basis for your further studies and future job opportunities.
We can realise your dreams. Everyone has dreams. Many hope to be able to realise their dreams and their creative talents. Kulturama is the school that makes it all possible. We are the arena where you have the opportunity to realise your dreams, where you dare to do it. Spread your wings, take off and fly.
